An upscale national restaurant chain that does its locals right: The Capital Grille
Let’s face it, eating at the Capital Grille is a treat, the food is special and expensive by daily living standards, the atmosphere is elegant and the service is top notch. We are now Fort Lauderdale locals and choose to dine at The Capital Grille for birthday parties, graduations and other special occasions. I consider it the go-to high quality dining experience in Fort Lauderdale as well as nationwide for steakhouse dining.
Last week, I thought my image of restaurant would be shattered for the foreseeable future. We decided to celebrate my son’s 16th birthday on a Saturday evening. I knew from the moment that I sat down, that I was in for a hefty tab, but what the hell-you only go around once. Life is not a dress rehearsal, so make it count if you can. Well, due to no fault of the Capital Grille, one of their neighboring restaurants also wanted to make a big impact on a Saturday evening. The neighboring establishment had the bass pumping from their sound system, I imagine to get their Saturday evening revelers up and moving. Well, we were the unlucky table abutting that wall where the sound was pumping. Wrong table, wrong hour, and we were in the wrong mood to be able to enjoy our birthday celebration.
So many times, restaurant proprietors don’t truly care about one’s individual dining experience; because the reality is that it is a numbers game. Everybody has an opinion and you can’t make everyone happy all the time. Well, that was my preconceived notion. I decided to get up and speak with the manager, who then brought over Danielle, the Managing Partner. Wow, I was truly shocked by the outpouring of empathy that this management group had for our not too good birthday experience.
Danielle and her group were so fair and accommodating that I felt I should write about it in one of my blog pieces. Not only, did they discount heavily our meal, but she invited us back the following week to have dinner and drinks on the house. They absolutely did not have to do that! I would have walked away a bit disgruntled and would have eventually returned perhaps being more mindful of the hour and our seating arrangement. They treated us to a meal befit for a prince arriving in Fort Lauderdale, and Josh, our waiter was truly amazing.
Treat yourself to the Kona coffee rubbed bone-in NY Strip, which is my favorite. Don’t forget their lobster bisque and wonderful salads like the iceberg wedge with blue cheese and bacon or one of their potato sides. I think all the food is of the highest quality, so whatever you choose, should be a winner.
This was a small hiccup with an awesome recovery in a string of otherwise wonderful dining experiences for my family and me at the Capital Grille. It is far and away the place for steak in Fort Lauderdale and they treat their patrons like gold.
The Capital Grille is located at 2430 E Sunrise Blvd. Fort Lauderdale, FL 33304
